I was looking through a folder (on my computer) of poems I’ve written, and have decided to share some of them here. Generally I keep them for myself – after all, I’m the person I really write them for, and the one who’s helped most by them. It’s a sort of therapy for difficult situations or feelings, or a way to express wonderful things I can’t really say in regular ways. But looking through them tonight, I thought – as I have sometimes before – that now they might help or bless someone else, too. So I’ll be posting the ones I’ve chosen here and on my other blog, Idealist At Large, in between regular posts. If you have poems or ideas to share (ideas for more poems), please do! The comments are always open and waiting.
Fear
Fear, thou wilt not prevail. My understanding is strong and my view long.
I know from whence thou comest, that thou art a phantasm, an unreal thing.
Do not deceive me or break the faith I know.
You cannot stop the light from shining on and around me,
for it is real and thou art not.
Always you have tried to win against my heart,
and oft you have failed.
For I have a strength thou canst not know, nor overcome;
It is in and with me from heav’n above.
“Trailing clouds of glory” did I come from that place,
and surrounded still am I
by its precious hope.
This I state: as before that hope prevailed, over and over again, so it always will.
Never will you obscure it completely, and so,
Never will your aims be met; your object achieved,
in me.
Forever
will you be thwarted.
This I promise.
